Little Pictures - Planning Considerations

When planning there are many factors that have to be considered:

How many ways to jump rope?......................

  • resources - ropes
  • school history
  • students resources - prior knowledge
  • other curricula
  • whanau/iwi resources
  • NZ HPE curriculum
  • space
  • time before jump off
  • weather (have a back up plan)
  • culture (used elsewhere?)
  • community resources
  • students learning needs

TUTORIAL:

Skipping......was a bit interesting and funny.....haven't skipped for a long time, I remember doing Jump Rope for Heart in primary school, although my body and arms does not remember how to move that quick to do the moves!!

But was quite interesting to see how to scaffold to the learning for how to learn to skip.

  • hopping (hop up & down - feet should be shoulder width apart, bend knees, jump up - whole foot down.
  • jump over line - bent knees, toes - last off, feet - land on
  • use rope over head
We had a group of four, one person taught this. Then routine of 4 skills in a group and demonstrate to the rest of the class. I thought our group was awesome and we were the best, kept it simple with a bit flair :)

The Learning Environment and Student Perspectives

What to think about when taking a class:
Learning Environment

  • entering/leaving - Where??
  • stop/start - whistle, hand signal
  • equipment - how (hand out), making it fun, routine
  • groups/teams - how you pick teams, grouping
  • accident - what is the procedure for if there is an accident or earthquake/fire
  • emergency - who looks after the class if you aren't there or unconscious etc
  • water - where is it?
  • toilet - where are they?
  • jewellery - rings off (fingers hurt will have to be cut off), earrings out (otherwise get torn), necklaces off (could get caught) etc
  • clothing - correct for weather (inside/outside), hats (sun/cold).

Shift in understandings........

I really connect with the concept of the Whare Tapa Wha model that health is more than the physical well being....

..it is spiritual, physical, social or family, and psychological or mental/emotional health that create an overall well-being or Hauora.

What is HPE???

The slide that stuck out for me in our first lecture was about Why the HPE community feel that HPE is important?

'.....a well designed and delivered HPE programme has the potential to support students to gain knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that enable them to.....

  • enjoy a healthy lifestyle
  • participate in range of activities
  • feel good in their own skin, and comfortable with who they are and what they believe in
  • maintain/enhance relationships with other people
in the last few years.....
  • contribute to well-being of others/community
  • create healthy communities
It made me think about my childhood and sport mainly, that I loved it, it gave me an opportunity to learn in a different environment.......to have a release from everything else......the Health side I don't really remember too much.
