Reflection 3:
Before starting the lesson and even the day our teacher had
made us aware that she had had a tough week, as it was drawing to the end of
the term the children’s attention levels were starting to wane and some
behavioural issues were starting to arise. So bearing this in mind I knew that
I would have to be on the ball and may have to adapt the lesson as we went.
I had a couple of students from the get go who were really
easily distracted, but most of them were listening, and were able to answer the
questions confidently. The doughnut was good but I adapted it a bit and had
them in two lines (to try and keep distraction from the other group down) and
got them to share their answer with their pair, and then with the group. Rather
than getting the students to do too much group work I got them to either draw
or write what they thought their bodies needed.
If I was to redo this lesson I would incorporate some quick
fire games into the session, just to break it up and to get them engaged and
on-the-go. I think this would have helped with the progression of the lesson as
well as the mood.
